Warangal: After years of anticipation, the Kaloji Kalakshetram, a versatile cultural convention center named in honor of Padma Vibhushan and renowned poet Kaloji Narayana Rao, is set to be inaugurated. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had laid the foundation stone for the Kaloji Kalakshetram on September 9, 2014, marking the centenary birth anniversary of the People’s Poet. Nine years later, the authorities have announced that it is ready for inauguration on Kaloji’s birth anniversary. The Kalakshetram was designed by the renowned architect Hafeez Contractor, known for his work on many skyscrapers.
Initially, the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) was responsible for constructing the convention center. However, in November 2022, the government entrusted the responsibility to the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA).
Chief Whip D Vinay Bhaskar, accompanied by MA&UD Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar, inspected the state-of-the-art auditorium worth Rs 75 crore on Wednesday. He announced that MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao will inaugurate the Kalakshetram on September 9.
To address the issue of flooding in the city, the MA&UD Ministry is launching the Strategic Drainage Development Programme (SNDP). This initiative aims to provide a permanent solution to the flood problem within the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits, following a model similar to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), as stated by Arvind Kumar. He added that Minister K T Rama Rao has allocated ample funds for this purpose.
Vinay Bhaskar mentioned that KTR had already released Rs 250 crore for the rehabilitation of flood-affected areas. Plans are in motion to construct a nine-story apartment complex near the Sammaiah Nagar colony to accommodate residents prone to flooding and those displaced by road widening in Peddammagadda, Vinay Bhaskar noted.
Among those present were Greater Warangal Mayor Gundu Sudharani, Warangal East MLA Nannapuneni Narender, Wardhannapet MLA Aroori Ramesh, MLC Baswaraj Saraiah, KUDA chairman Sunder Raj Yadav, and municipal commissioner Shaikh Rizwan Basha.
