The much-awaited monsoon session of Parliament kicks off on Thursday and is scheduled to run until August 11. Ahead of the session, opposition parties engaged in talks to formulate their strategy and address crucial issues.
On Wednesday, a fresh controversy emerged surrounding the Manipur violence, where police confirmed reports of a mob gang-raping women who were paraded naked. In light of this disturbing development, the Opposition demanded a discussion on the Manipur situation during the monsoon session.
To address concerns and ensure a smooth functioning of Parliament, an all-party meeting was convened by the government on Wednesday. During the meeting, the government expressed its readiness to discuss all issues raised by the opposition. Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi, extended the government’s appeal for support from the opposition parties in facilitating the smooth conduct of the session.
One of the highly anticipated bills to be discussed during the session is the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has consistently criticized this bill and garnered support from various opposition parties.
Throughout this Parliament session, a total of 31 bills are likely to be discussed, including those that have already been introduced in the lower house. Among them, the data protection bill is of particular importance, as the central government is eager to address concerns related to data security and privacy.
As the monsoon session begins, all eyes are on Parliament, and the nation awaits the outcomes of these crucial discussions and deliberations.
